Scarlett Enjoys her First Ironman 70.3
Why did you approach Temple Performance?
I approached TP in May looking for consistency in the gym and guidance with knee rehab, which I was becoming pretty unmotivated with. I didn’t have a specific plan in mind, but I knew I needed help to get my knee strong again. By June, I floated the idea of maybe doing a 70.3, and I was met with an enthusiastic response of "YES" and a plan for how to get there. Considering where I was coming from, the challenge felt pretty daunting, but by following a consistent and evolving plan, it started to feel achievable.
How did you find the training programme delivery?
A huge part of my enjoyment of the race itself has been the structure and knowledge behind the 15-week programme I received. I loved waking up each morning, seeing my sessions for the day, completing them, and knowing I'd be ready on race day. I also recently started my first full-time job, so it was really important to have a programme to fit around my new commitments. TP created a detailed, digital programme that was easy to follow and adapt. The platform not only served as a training schedule but also as a network for discussing my concerns and injuries, which shaped the sessions in the weeks that followed.
How did race day go?
Race day was SO FUN! Despite being nervous, I had so much confidence that everything was going to be okay. This wasn't just because of the training and preparation, but also the conversations I had with TP in the days leading up to the event and on the morning of. I exceeded my expectations in each of the three disciplines and loved the competitiveness of the day. Throughout the race, I could feel my nutrition and training paying off, and at every turn, I was excited to take on the next part of the course.
Any advice for other athletes thinking of working with Temple Performance?
At the beginning of the year, I walked into a running shop and asked the assistant for trainers to help me learn to run a 5K after ACLR. Seven months later, I completed a half Ironman. I had no idea, nor any expectation, that I would ever achieve something like this. The progress I made came down to having a thorough and adaptable training programme that kept me accountable. It provided the guidance and support I needed to reach the best possible result on race day.
